Terms and Conditions

for

Micro-Donation Website and Donations

  1. Purpose and Scope

The Micro-Donation Website (“MDW”) is an online platform provided by Hong Kong Baptist University (“HKBU” or the “University”) for making micro-donations (“Donations”) to support HKBU initiatives. These terms and conditions (the “Terms”) outline your rights and responsibilities as a donor. By making Donations, the donors (or you) are deemed to have read and accepted these Terms.

  1. Donation Eligibility

Donations may be made by individuals, companies and organisations. The eligible individuals include Council/Court members, students, alumni (with valid HKBU-assigned identification number), staff, parents, members of the general public. The University will not solicit or accept donations via MDW from any parties involved in dealing or manufacturing of arms, tobacco or vaping products or hard liquor, or from entities engaged in actual or suspected illegal activities or special‑interest groups that conflict with University policies or values. The University reserves the right to decline any Donation at its discretion.

  1. Donation Limits

Only Donations in Hong Kong dollars will be accepted and the minimum sum for each Donation is HK$50.  The maximum Donation for each donor is HK$20,000 per fiscal year running from 1 July to 30 June.  Donations above the maximum limit may be made via other University channels by contacting the fundraising unit or HKBU Foundation.

  1. Methods and Process of Donation
Secure online payment options are available for Donations to be made via MDW.  After making the Donation, the donor will receive an immediate on-screen payment acknowledgement.

  1. Receipts and Tax Exemption
Receipts will be issued by HKBU for Donations of HK$100 or more for tax exemption purpose. The receipt will be available for viewing and download in your MDW profile approximately 7 working days after the Donation. Donors are responsible for ascertaining the tax deduction or exemption rules of the applicable jurisdiction and ensuring their legal name is accurately recorded on the receipt.

  1. Use and Allocation of Donations
Donations made through MDW are destined for supporting HKBU initiatives in areas such as teaching, research, knowledge transfer, community service, student support and services, University Christian Ministry, and alumni development.  Donors are expressly informed that Donations are non-refundable except for the circumstances stated in paragraph 7. In making the Donations, the donors agree that in case of any initiative cancellation, the Donations where appropriate will be redirected to support all activities under the University’s Strategic Development.

  1. Compliance and Ethics
Donations made through MDW are accepted at HKBU’s discretion and in accordance with the applicable laws, regulations and University policies (including but not limited to those relating to anti‑money‑laundering and anti‑bribery, and avoidance of conflict requirements). HKBU may conduct verification and due diligence on donors and sources of funds as it deems appropriate, and may hold, decline or refund any Donation that does not meet HKBU’s criteria or it carries conditions inconsistent with University policies, or may compromise HKBU’s integrity or reputation. If HKBU declines or refunds a Donation, any associated recognition will be cancelled.

  1. Personal Data and Privacy
Your personal data collected by HKBU is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy Statement / Personal Information Collection Statement (“PPS/PICS”) and all its future revised versions notified by HKBU.  Please click here to access the current PPS/PICS.

The mandatory personal data for processing your Donation is collected when you complete your donor profile during account registration. Without the data, HKBU cannot process your intended Donation.
